Texas Water Symposium Essay Contest
Kids, Water, and Science: Perspectives from our Future
This spring, Center Point Elementary school students had the opportunity to participate in an essay contest hosted by Schreiner University. The contest featured Bandera, Boerne, Center Point, Comfort, Fredericksburg, Ingram, Kerrville, and Medina schools. Out of all essays submitted Brooklyn S., a fourth grade student in Mrs. Stanley’s class, won 3rd place in the 3-5 grade category. Brooklyn, her family, and Mr. Johnson were invited to attend an award ceremony to recognize off of the essay contest winners. The formal ceremony was held on March 25 in the Cailloux Activity Center ballroom at the Schreiner University campus in Kerrville. Brooklyn was recognized by Mr. Doug Miller, State Representative District 73 and an excerpt from her essay was read aloud by Linda Ruiz McCall of the Texas Water Development Board. In addition to being recognized, Brooklyn received a Certificate from the Texas Water Symposium. During the ceremony Brooklyn had an opportunity to expand on her knowledge of water importance and conservation by listening to speakers from Texas Tech University, Schreiner University, The Texas Water Development Board, the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and a State Representative. In addition, an in depth question and answer session followed the ceremony.
This was an excellent learning opportunity for Brooklyn. We are very proud she represented CPISD in such a great way. Center Point Elementary is very proud of Brooklyn’s accomplishments and looks forward to her success in all her future endeavors. So, if you see her, please congratulate her for a job well done! Thanks Brooklyn and WAY TO GO!!!!
