Elementary Teacher of the Month - April

by Deborah Hicks

April 21, 2010

Our Teacher of the Month for April is Mrs. Debra Behrens.

Caring

Debra is caring in her daily interactions with students and co-workers.  She truly gets to know her students every year.  Her interaction with them makes them feel special and enables her to teach them the way they learn.  She is willing to help anyone who needs help.  She relates to her kids very well.  She always adds humor when talking with students and peers.  She puts everyone at ease with her friendly attitude and humor.

Passion

Debra wants the best for her students.  Her expectations are always high, year after year.  She encourages them to do their best everyday and understands their needs and learning styles.  Her passion for teaching is evident in her long time commitment to education.  She has taught different grade levels and is always successful.

Inspiring

She inspires her students through her enthusiasm and passion for learning as much as she does for the Spurs home games.  She inspires others to learn by becoming proficient in technology and always offering to help others in need.  She is a board member on the Center Point Stock Show Association, she is on the technology committee, and has played a vital role in the G/t program.  She inspires her fellow teachers through her hard-work and dedication.

Self-Less

Debra goes out of her way to help students because she cares so much for them.  When they need extra help they come to her room before and after school.  She is self-less in her attitude when helping students succeed.   She lets them come in early and finds new ways top help them throughout the day.  Her relationship with the students carries over in the students wanting to learn so they can be successful for her.

Dedication

Debra’s dedication is apparent when she volunteers to teach summer school year after year and does so with a smile.  It also shows when she offers to teach a class in our community education program.  Mrs. Behrens has worked in CPISD for more than 25 years.  She has supported the school and community through her tireless work ethic and by giving her time everyday.
