Election Notice Election Notice - Spanish

A 20-member, Board appointed Facilities Committee made up of community leaders, parents, and school personnel identified these facility needs:

Safety - Students have to cross the highway to get to classes.  Additional common space is needed to separate and contain younger children from older students.

Security - The High School & Middle School campus has numerous entry points and lacks a secure visitor check-in.

Curricular - Our science lab does not meet minimum Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards.  We need more science labs to meet the state-mandated 4x4 graduation requirements

Structural - Several buildings need new roofs to protect their longevity.  Elementary students need their own play gym.

The Facilities Committee:

  • Toured the buildings
  • Heard the State of the District
  • Studied recent state curriculum mandates
  • Reviewed school finance and CPISD's bond capacity
  • Prioritized District facility needs
  • Studied 7 potential facility solutions
  • Recommended a solution to the Board that meets all the needs identified

Additional Points:

  • Our students are losing instructional time traveling between buildings on our campuses.  This loss of instructional time makes it difficult for teachers to incorporate the CSCOPE curriculum.
  • Students also have to cross the highway to get to classes down the hill. The proposed plan is intended to alleviate this issue.
  • A new cafeteria will help separate and contain younger children from older students.
  • The new school will be designed with teacher and administrative input so that it suits the individual needs of our community.
  • Extensive upkeep is required to maintain some of our older buildings.  Replacing them with a new addition will free up monies for other needs.
  • Bond money cannot be used for salaries or day-to-day operating expenses.  It can only be used for buildings and infrastructure.
