Books are Treasures Waiting to be Discovered

Dear Pirates and Parents,

Happy New Year!! I hope 2012 will be a wonderful year for everyone!! It's hard to believe that we are halfway through this school year! During the 4th 6-weeks of school the students will be working on a variety of skills to help prepare them for the new state assessment (STAAR) that will be administered later this school year. Some of the skills that we will be focusing on are: making inferences, fiction, autobiography, prefixes, suffixes, drawing conclusions, following directions, sequencing, graphs, fact/opinion, theme, literary elements, analogies, understanding research, and understanding connections across literary texts.

Please continue encouraging you child to study reading vocabulary flashcards every night. Students should also be reading A.R. books on a daily basis at home. Every Thursday we go to the library to check out books.

January 4 - Report Cards go home

January 19 and 20 - Stock Show (no school)

February 17 - End of 4th 6-weeks
