Happenings During the Semester.....

What's New text

This school year is blazing past us all!  I can't believe that we are already in the month of February.  It is almost TAKS time. (Don't panic!) I am posting upcoming events in Special Education.  We have some exciting events coming up as the semester progress and I'm really looking forward to it.

TAKS

We will be taking TAKS tests during the months of March and April. This is always a stressful time for students and teachers.  Here are a few tips to make it easier for kids.

  • Get a good nights sleep.  Sleeping well will help your students stay focused and to concentrate on the tests
  • Eat a good breakfast.  Eating a good breakfast will give your student energy and stamina as they test.
  • Try to encourage your student not to stress and worry about testing.  Encourage them to relax and pace themselves.

Field Trips

We will be taking two scheduled field trips this semester.  The first one is Special Olympics.  This is scheduled for the month of April.  Mrs. Kirby and myself will be sending home dates, times, and paperwork during the month of April.  This is one of my favorite events to participate in!  I love to watch the kids get out there and participate with other students.  They have such a good time and they love all the events.

Our second field trip during the semester takes place May 4th.  ESL and special education are combining groups and going to the Magic Theater.  We are going to see the play, "How I Became a Pirate."  This theater is wonderful!  They produce plays from Children's books.  The kids absolutely love this trip.  They have been asking since the beginning of the school year when we are going.  This trip will be a nice way to relax after testing during March and April.
