Since Christmas we have had an interesting time studying about rocks, soil, and soon, earthworms. My mother (Mrs. Evelyn Homesley) came to my class and gave an interesting talk about rocks, especially the ones in her vast collection. The students seemed very interested in everything she said, especially when she showed them the dinosaur teeth and coprolites (look it up!). The meteorites (tektites) were also of great interest. During her talk, many students had their questions answered. We have also explored the differences between living organisms and non-living objects. Soon, we will be playing with earthworms. (Groan!) We will be comparing the differences between them and gummy worms. I hope they will be able to tell the difference, especially when we plan to eat the gummy worms later!
There were many other areas we covered in detail. We spent a lot of time in fractions, and they seemed to understand the concepts quite well. Of course, we are constantly working on our phonics and reading skills.
Call me if you have any questions,
Mrs. Jan Solomon
