Message from the Head Chef

A woman with curly brown hair smiles at the camera.

Community members and visitors, come enjoy a culinary delight prepared and served by our Advanced Culinary Arts & Hospitality Students! Experience the passion and creativity of our student chefs at the Pirate Bistro. Our student-led lunch bistro is an innovative and inspiring place, where our young chefs create and serve delicious meals.

Your visit will support our students as they gain hands-on experience in the inner workings of running a restaurant. We encourage you to dine in the Bistro to give our students the extra experience of operating a restaurant. The Pirate Bistro is open to Reservations made by both our CPISD staff and the public on select days. Please reserve by the monthly deadline as seats are limited in our Wardroom.

Carry-Out Orders are Accepted. Order either Dine-In or Carry-Out by the close of ticket sales for the coming service day. We do not offer delivery service..

As noted above, this is a learning environment for our students. The main goal of our operation is to provide students with as much real-world working experience and knowledge of our industry as possible. As with any new project, our students will continue to learn throughout the teaching semester. Thank you for your Support.

Warm regards,
Kimberly Young

School Nutrition Standards

Unfortunately, students are not allowed to purchase or eat the food provided by the Pirate Bistro due to national School Nutrition Standards.

School meals are healthy meals that are required to meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. To receive federal reimbursements, school meal programs must offer “reimbursable” meals that meet strict federal nutrition standards. These standards, also referred to as “the meal pattern,” require schools to offer students the right balance of fruits, vegetables, low-fat or fat-free milk, whole grains and lean protein with every meal. Since July 1, 2014, the US Department of Agriculture’s Smart Snacks in School rules have required all foods and beverages sold separate from school meals to meet new nutrition standards. Often referred to as “competitive foods,” because they are sold in competition to the complete reimbursable school meal, these items include entrees, sides, snacks or drinks sold during the school day in vending machines, snack bars and a la carte lines. The rules do not apply to food and beverages brought from home or sold during non-school hours, weekends or at off-campus events (e.g. concessions during sporting events and school plays).
